Review of Absentia (2011) by Mike Q — 23 Mar 2012
For a micro-budget horror film, this makes the best of the limited resources it has. Hats off to director Mike Flanagan for making the two leads female! Instead of spraying us with cheap gore to try to horrify, he uses good old fashion suspense with a highly mysterious and engaging story.
While there are a few moments of cheese, it's still refreshing to see a horror film that doesn't rely on zombies, aliens, vampires or any of that other over-used, unrelatable and unoriginal monsters gimmicks.
