Review of Absentia (2011) by Sherri A — 21 Apr 2012
A solid if ultimately flawed little horror film, Absentia concerns a woman who is finally having her husband confirmed dead after he has been missing for several years. After a series of bizarre events, she and a friend discover that their neighborhood has been the scene of numerous unexplained disappearances over the decades.
A bit slow-paced perhaps for some horror fans, Absentia builds slowly and methodically towards a rather original and clever conclusion. If you are looking for jump-out-of-your-seat scares or gore, then you will be thoroughly disappointed.
But if you appreciate horror that relies more psychological depth and eeriness, then you should give Absentia a chance.
