Review of About Schmidt (2002) by David F — 30 Jun 2009
The story and acting are so well done, they cloud over the story's depressing aspect. At times when watching this film, you actually forget that what you are watching is an ultimately tragic film. The film's final shot brought me to tears.
Particuarly strong are Jack Nicholson's performance and the "Dear Ndugu" element of the screenplay. However, the film's photography is at times tiring to watch and can bore you at times if you're not in the right mood, not that this detracts from the film at all.
It can also be tiring in the obviously saddening parts, of which are strengthened by the perfect score and use of limited sound.
