Ingenuinely funny and sad at the same time, About Scmidt is a deeply moving tale of an old man. The movie gives a canny peek into a life of a retiree (Jack Nicholson) who reevaluates his life and tries to hold on to whatever is valuable is left for him. He is irritated about a freshly graduated young "punk" that took over his job. He is upset that he is no longer needed, no longer asked for advice, no longer longed by women. Although some wealth have been accumulated, dreams left unachieved. Most of what is left is loneliness and anger. One call to a charity organization seems to be the only difference he can make in this word. What ensues after this call is definitely worth watching.

Personally, it is one of the best movies I've ever seen. The subtle humour is unbeatable, the story is refreshing and the emotional depth is profound. Nicolson's performance is irresistible here. The ending may seem unsatisfying for many, as many do not want to accept the sad reality in movies. Nevertheless, it is one of the most touching film endings I've ever watched. All in all, it is a perfect dramedy.
