About Schmidt is a mildly depressing, yet entertaining film centering around Warren Schmidt (Nicholson) a recent retiree and his look back and analysis of his life and disappointments. When his daughter becomes engaged Schmidt makes it his mission to convince her to leave the offbeat family she is marrying into.
Kathy Bates shines as a horny new-age hippie with her eye on Nicholson. The facial expressions on Nicholson alone make the film worth watching. Well written, entertaining and thought provoking.
