Review of About Schmidt (2002) by Stephen E — 23 Oct 2011
This is the opposite of A Serbian Film, this movie is pretty goddamn great featuring probably one of Jack Nicholson's most understated performances, but also one of his best. Jack, like Al Pacino, is one of those guys whose trademark is being explosive.
And this movie we get a completely quiet and introspective character, and he was just fantastic in the movie at playing this man who tried to do what he thinks is best but one who has a lot of flaws. And that's probably one of the strengths of the movie, he's not a perfect person.
He's not a perfect father and he was not a perfect husband, and that all plays into how he feels about his life. Also, big props to the pacing of the movie that was just excellent. It does not feel like a 2 hour movie at all.
Overall just a great movie with great characters and tremendous acting.
