Review of About Last Night... (1986) by Judith F — 01 Jan 2012
A fine relationship movie. The laughs are few, but what's given, almost always by Belushi, and almost always works. The romantic angle of Danny and Debbie's start is also effective and feels true. Starts as one night stand, furthers with great sex, and then all of sudden she's moving in. Their respective friends, selfishly perversing the couple at every turn.
But where the film lost me is where the relationship takes its turn toward the south. It's too simple to say a guy has a bad day at work, shuts himself off with anger at home and now you've decided you don't know each other anymore. The start of the relationship was fast paced, that's true. But one of them would have held out a little longer in the end. This made the movie a little cumbersome.
