The book was somewhat preachy. This heavy-handed movie takes great special effects and cute actors and has them dully learn preachy lessons even more than the book. Boring.
I think the lesson I am supposed to learn is that by studying math I can find the frequency to wish myself to other planets and join the fight against the spreading evil darkness.
