Review of A Woman Under the Influence (1974) by Justin A — 21 Aug 2008
An absolute perfect film. I wish the films of today had the genuine love and quality that the 70's did. This film truly had effortless, invisible direction. Everything felt organic and happening in the moment, didn't feel as if it were rehearsed, or written or thought about. Gena Rowlands was indescribable, brilliant. It's probably the best female performance I've ever seen. I was in awe the entire film, especially when Gena was on screen -- she was insane, but didn't appear to be acting or creating a character. And the intensity between Gena and Peter Falk was very real, true drama.
I may have to re-think my top ten favorite films. This film certainly belongs in there.
