Review of A Walk in the Woods (2015) by Andrew M — 03 Sep 2015
While watching this, I get the feeling someone watched, "Wild", and thought they could turn it into a buddy road trip movie with older actors, and it really does feel like a cheap attempt to cash in on the Oscar buzz that film generated.
The main problem with that idea is that, to be brutally honest, such actors are usually not up to physically travel to the required locations, and while sometimes they were on the real trail, it's often very obvious when they're on a set instead which gets very distracting.
I also didn't find the jokes to be all that funny, some points are set up and just dropped, the bit with Staal's purposely annoying character was aggravating, and Redford really didn't seem to be giving it his all.
Still, it's mostly inoffensive, but maybe catch it on TV sometime instead of a theatre.
