Review of A Walk in the Woods (2015) by Greg B — 04 Sep 2015
"A Walk in the Woods" chronicles a spiritual journey that two older men (Robert Redford and Nick Nolte) take as they try to hike the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Along the way the two men bond as they encounter perils from annoying female hikers all the way to snow and getting stuck on a ledge.
Though Nolte is the comic relief, he brings a certain balance to the film and is like the cathartic foil who motivates and brings down Redford at the same time. It can be said the two have many misadventures and plenty of opportunities to bond.
The film has much to say about metaphysics and the meaning of life, and the two men realize humanity's insignificance when staring up at the stars. I thought the two leads had terrific chemistry and that this film will appeal to more than just the older crowd.
Redford feels relevant in this movie. Though not as good as "Wild", this film still packs a punch -------------------------------------- B.
