I would probably not recommend watching this with your girlfriend. Not because of the blood, actually there is no blood, but because it's a total guy's movie about guy's gettin' ready to storm a farm house.
The writing is one of the most original I've seen in 40's films. It very much resembles a Tarrantino movie but in the 1943 fashion. Slight similarities with Saving Private Ryan are apparent as well.
A fun watch and different than most war films. Two thumbs up.
