Review of A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014) by Jt H — 01 Dec 2014
Based on Lawrence Block book of the same title. Liam Neeson plays Matt Scudder. In terms of plot this is nothing really new. 1 A former NYPD. 2 A recovering alcoholic. 3 With his own nightmares. The clichés could go on.
Starting in 1990 with a brief prologue before jumping to 1999. This is New York of the grimy old days. Where streets feel dark and dangerous as we move through them. Asked to investigate a kidnapping turned to murder by the victim's drug dealing husband.
As far a plots go, if you've read or watched any crime series of the last twenty years it's unlikely that you won't guess most of the plot. But it's good to see Neeson doing something besides daft action movies, not that it pushes the envelope of crime thriller.
If you like your old style detective films mixed in with some modern touches plus a fair amount of crime book clichés you should have fun with this.
