Here is what the major reviewers and th e amateur reviewers completely missed. This film was not made out of whole cloth. It was based on the Lawrence Block novel. It was perfectly realized. It stayed true to the book and the feel and to,the characters.
No one who has not read the novel should be considered seriously in their commentary. Scott Frank did a spectacular job and I would hate to think that only the Lawrence Block fans know how great a job was done on capturing the books story lines and subplots by the director.
