Review of A Troll in Central Park (1994) by Neil D — 25 Mar 2008

Okay, after someone finally uploaded this whole thing to youtube, I figured "Why not relive a good memory"? Upon doing so, I'm wondering why I used to love this so much as a kid. Now, judging by my rating, you can tell I don't consider it a bad movie. It had a good point to it and it was a nice idea, but I felt it was stretching it a bit. I feel I should finally do a more fair review here and just spouting cheap words:

Plot: 6/10. It was okay, it was certainly original, but it was also kinda stupid and lame, but I've seen good movies with bad storylines before.

Animations: 8/10. If there's anything you can expect Don Bluth to give us, it's always spectacular animations.

Humor: 5/10. I didn't find a whole lot of the humor really worth laughing at. Some points made me snicker, but I just didn't feel this was nearly as humorous as Don's other works.

Music: 8/10. What can I say, it's very nice and normal for this kind of movie.

Overall: 6/10. It was okay, and kids might like it, but at the same time... well, I can expect weird from Don Bluth. That's normal for him. But this one wasn't nearly as enjoyable as his other works. Also, some things in this really didn't add up, like how was Gus able to turn his thumb green at the end? And why does Stanley same to have this romantic interest in Rosey? I'm sure they weren't aiming at that, but wow, that reaction from a little girl kissing him. And can we really say the troll queen was really defeated in the end? Didn't look like a real defeat to me. Also, isn't it a bit of a stretch to plant flowers everywhere? I find it odd that no one except the kids even noticed it going on. Yes, Don Bluth makes weird movies that I really enjoy, but this one wasn't quite as enjoyable.
