Review of A Troll in Central Park (1994) by Louis P — 15 Nov 2012
Okay, I'll admit it: this movie has not aged well, but I've still got a huge fondness for it. I enjoyed it a lot as a kid, and when I tried watching it again as an adult I thought it was: okay.
Just okay. It's not Don Bluth's best film (that award goes to both The Secret of NIMH and Anastasia), but I don't feel that it's his worst either. Storywise it's alright, the characters are likeable, the animation is good (not spectacular), and it's largely an okay movie.
I have to say, that I always preferred Thumbelina to A Troll in Central Park, though I could never bring myself to dislike this movie; even when I eventually found out that it did not do well with most critics and audience members.
Dom DeLuise had a charming role as Stanley, and Cloris Leachman made for a good villainness. I also acknowledge that the way it ends with *spoilers* all the green nature magically appearing on the buildings is a bit too disconcerting *spoilers*, but at the end of the day I still like it; just not as much as I did at one point.
Kids may like this movie, but most adults might not like it as much, if at all.
