Review of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945) by Chris E — 25 Jan 2010
A movie that was entirely faithful to book. I only wish it could have been a miniseries with every scene enacted. The actors were tremendous. Each played their inner and personal conflicts wonderfully.
Actress Peggy Ann Garner WAS Francie Nolan. She spoke and looked exactly like I imagined while reading the book. The father was a bitter sweet character who you loved but wanted to see become more responsible father.
The mother was the no-nonsense leader of the family who took the brunt of all major responsibiliies which hardened her much to her regret.
