Review of A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) by Chloe S — 08 Nov 2008
In my opinion, too much over-acting. She is too histrionic to be believable, sorry...too much like Scarlet from 'Gone With the Wind.' The other actors were much more believable, but she still managed to be sympathetic.
I get that she was supposed to be an overly-dramatic, overly-fake persona, but the actress could've made some parts more convincing. Consider Margo in 'All About Eve'; this is another movie about another very similar character, but Bette Davis does this type of character in a more believable manner.
..I'm not sure how else to describe it. I couldn't bring myself to like this one, though, (maybe because I had trouble identifying with any characters?) and I really don't see what the big deal is.
