Review of A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) by Danny S — 10 Aug 2011
Tennessee Williams brings a lot for Elia Kazan to work with. He always leaves you trying to figure out Stanley and Blanche. The casting is fantastic- "I always rely upon the kindness of strangers".
This is a very different role for Vivien Leigh compared to her role as Scarlett O'hara, but she shines just as bright. Marlon Brando... what an actor. You can tell that his acting is amazing when you hate his character and are attracted to him (like Stella) at the same time.
Read the play, then see the movie.
