Review of A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) by Ann D — 21 Nov 2010
A disturbing story that unravels as a proto-feminist commentary on the plight of women. leigh as blanche is convincingly unhinged and brando as stanley kowalski strikes the right balance of seductiveness/likeability and monstrous violence.
hunter and malden are also excellent as "normal" people caught in the tug of war between blanche and stanley. interesting to see a work from the 40's (and 50's) so totally nail the dynamics of abusive relationships and female dependence on men.
