Review of A Star Is Born (2018) by Jon C — 11 Oct 2018
This is essentially the 5th version of the story that's very well-known.
The balancing of fame, drug addiction, alcoholism, the price of fame and the downfall of success.
Bradley Cooper stars and directs with Lady Gaga; the two of them make for chemistry that is absolute gold.
James Maine is a successful artist secretly consumed by his excessive drinking and pills, so one night he goes into a drag bar and stumbles upon Ally performing a gig on stage.
He's very taken by her voice, Ally herself has never been comfortable in her own shell since everyone has turned her down by her physical appearance.
James though tells her she has something to say with her singing and that people will listen.
The two of them then start to fall in love and make an amazing music career together.
Along the way though James starts to feel alienated by her being on top of the world and she's being pulled in two directions because of his substance abuse.
Stupendous acting from both leads, a very romantic soundtrack, and an emotional ending that should shake many to the core.
Great supporting players by Dave Chappelle and Sam Elliot.
This didnt have to be over 2 hours and though and it does get pretty depressing in spots.
Still, Cooper knows how to make a modern artist's story and a love story work so vigorously.
I smell Oscar-worthyness here.
