Review of A Star Is Born (1954) by Mark F — 05 Jun 2007
Possibly my favorite movie of all time. Judy is unbelievably moving in this film - she really gets a ton of mileage out of her vulnerable persona. The perfect match of actress and part, she is incredibly natural and believable in every scene.
If you love Judy Garland, this might end up being your favorite movie too. A melodrama in the best sense of the word, there is nothing I can find wrong with this movie, other than the fact that it's kind of old-fashioned.
But even that seems more of a virtue than a flaw. Filled with memorable scenes and classic moments, this is never going to make any film critic's top 10 list. And yet I think it's one of the finest movies I've ever seen.
I can't rave about it enough.
