This movie proves once and for all that Judy Garland's talent on the screen is not just her fantastic singing. It is the raw emotion that she brings to every performance; the biting, tearing and gut-wrenching heart that she pours forth into every aspect of the performance, that truly makes her a star.
She carries every scene, including the most memorable, "The Man That Got Away", in which she sings the entire song without camera break, panning, splicing or editing, a very difficult thing for any actor to do, no matter the calibre.
The soundtrack is magnificent, and James Mason is raw and real in his portrayal. Amazing, amazing film.
