Review of A Sort of Homecoming (2015) by Lynn R — 11 Jan 2016
This is an indie that made the festival rounds in 2015. It stars Laura Marano of Disney Channel's Austin & Ally and Katherine McNamara of the new Freeform series Shadowhunters. It's a thoughtful teen drama about identity and belong, told from an adult point of view and set in the highly competitive world of high school debate. Here are the awards it picked up at festival around the US:
>> Gold Award for Best Dramatic Feature (WorldFest-Houston 2015).
>> Rising Star Award for Laura Marano (WorldFest-Houston 2015).
>> Best Director Award for Maria Burton (Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles 2015).
>> Best Supporting Actress for Kathleen Wilhoite (Breckenridge Festival of Film 2015).
