Review of A Simple Favor (2018) by Liv M — 26 Sep 2018
After waiting in anticipation for weeks I found myself leaving the theatre somewhat unfulfilled. Despite suspense being present in scenes and humour being added in just the right moments, the movie, in my opinion, didn't reach it's potential. From the get go I was curious to know Emily's (Black Lively) secret, that curiosity died down as the time went on due to tense moments and plot twists being a little too predictable. I found myself getting hooked on unnecessary characters and storylines (Stephanie's confession and Emily's boss in particular), excited to see how they were all going to tie into the resolution of the film but found they were more irrelevant loose ends rather than actual characters. Had everything tied in together to piece a final picture of Emily's life it would have been much more satisfying.
Nevertheless, I loved watching Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively on screen together. The duo embodied extremely different characters to their past jobs yet it wasn't hard to watch or unsee Blake as Serena (Gossip Girl), for example.
All in all, it's worth the watch, I was just disappointed with the pointless storylines.
