Review of A Shot in the Dark (1964) by Brad B — 29 Jan 2008
This is second in the Pink Panther series and for my money the best.I can still throw this flick on and end up laughing at Seller's Clouseau character.
Many people don't know that in the original Pink Panther movie Seller's Clouseau was a supporting character but his charactorization so effectively stole the show that Blake Edwards went on to make this movie to give him center stage! What a masterful choice that was because this is a character that is priceless!
Sellers brought to life a comedic character of iconic perportions here. Right up there with Charlie Chaplins the tramp.
Lovable, inept, bumbling and the crown prince of cinema nitwits.
This is hands down the best of the franchise and that's quite a feat because this whole series has delivered so many funny moments and its no wonder Edwards and Sellers returned to this well so many times.
Note* It's also a crime that so many of these films were made. In the end Edwards and Sellers ran this whole movie series into the ground and over did a good thing! But this film is back when it all was fresh and the jokes and gags still work and it will remain a timeless comedy classic!
