Review of A Serious Man (2009) by Nisrin A — 16 Jan 2011
A very Jewish film. Perhaps I should qualify this statement. I think if I were Jewish I probably would have enjoyed this more, particularly the humour but I think this was lost on me and as a result this was perhaps the least enjoyable Coen brothers film I have seen to date.
The acting was top notch but the plot (was there a plot?) just did not make this compelling enough for me. It started off well, very well with the yiddish historical intro but you just didn't identify with any of the characters at all.
A serious man was too serious a Coen brothers film for me.
