Review of A Serious Man (2009) by Kate H — 18 Aug 2011
Darkly funny and shockingly engaging for nothing too much going on. I mean yes things are going on but they are the usual weird or outlandish Coen brothers fare. Physics prof proceeds to have a slew of misfortunes happen to him.
He tries to deal while at the same time be seen as serious man. That's really how I can put it. Absurdist retelling of the book of Job with a distinctly (and that's putting it lightly) Jewish flavour.
Interesting all in all, though I did spent most of the film laughing at the absurdity of it all. Maybe that's what we're supposed to do with that ending.
