Review of A Serbian Film (2010) by Jeffrey M — 03 Sep 2014
A movie about the most extreme behavior of human beings when they revert to being sexual beasts. The content is horrific and graphic beyond imagining, with lots of torture porn and sadistic acts. In spite of this, I cannot dismiss this film as just another piece of extreme cinema trash, because it is so well acted with brilliant cinematography.
There is nothing joyful or humorous about this film. It is about the darkest, most depraved parts of human nature. The main character in this steps outside of himself as he commits these acts, and ultimately cannot live with the horrible things he has done.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT see this film if you are any way sensitive or squeamish. There are scenes in this that cannot be unseen, including some things that many people would find extremely offensive.
If you have not been introduced to extreme cinema, this will be way to hardcore for you. The performances are very strong and the emotions run high, it is very hard to tear your eyes away from this movie.
It both pulls you in, and is completely repulsive at the same time. It is a brutal study of human insanity, and a warning.
