Review of A Serbian Film (2010) by Carlos A — 08 Mar 2011
I do not understand how some people are raving about this film. I am a fan of the extreme, and even I winced a few times at this movie. If you liked it, fine, but please don't tell me that it's because it's a "beautiful film" or that it's some kind of metaphor for the atrocities committed by the Serbian government.
I'm not sure how tricking someone into raping their unconscious son, or how "newborn porn" is a metaphor for anything. The filmmakers set out to shock, outrage and offend. It's as simple as that, and they achieved that.
I think many people are saying they liked this film simply so they can appear to be "hardcore". I can only imagine some of the rebuttals I'm going to get for this review, and I really don't care.
There really is no reason to watch this film other than to test yourself to see how much you can take. I gave it two stars only for achieving what, in my mind, they set out to do, which was to be as outrageous as possible.
