Review of A Serbian Film (2010) by Ashley S — 12 Mar 2011
You know, I'm not a gore-hound in the least. I'm not a huge fan of torture porn and horror films in general and I tend to stay away from the most controversial titles cinema has to offer. That said, "A Serbian Film" is one of the most constantly challenging and engaging films I've seen in years.
Despite how horrendous it all is, it manages to never feel like simple exploitation designed with the soul purpose of shocking audiences. There's a sense of purpose and importance to all of it (A sense I can't describe).
Because of that, the film didn't sicken me. It assaulted my senses and gave me a lot to think about. Also unlike other films of it's kind it's very well made. For those reasons, you should see it if you have any desire too.
If not just stay clear.
