Review of A Serbian Film (2010) by Brian S — 12 Aug 2011
Don't watch this film. Don't let anyone you care for watch this film. Not because it's bad, which it isn't, but because it is damaging. To call it transgressive, depressing and repulsive doesn't begin to describe this. This is the most toxic hour-and-three quarters ever captured in cinema. This makes Lars von Trier's "Antichrist" look like "Pippi Longstocking." Still, once it had really started, I couldn't stop it.
I am neither kidding nor exaggerating. I am, in fact, at a loss for words. This is an honest warning... not a call for censorship. This film WILL hurt you. If there is such a thing as evil in the world, this is the movie that has captured it. I have given it four stars because it has done to me exactly what it set out to do.
I will not sleep tonight. I will not describe to anyone anything I have just seen. I will not discuss it further. I will try to forget that this exists at all.
