Review of A Serbian Film (2010) by Mark J — 29 May 2012
Understand this, the film is not just about insest and gore, it is a hilariously sarcastic attack to the Serbian government. You have to remember over the last 20 or so years since the Bosnia and Herzegovina (etc) wars which saw the Serbs pushed from what was a relatively united area which become border defined and divided states not to mention; criminals, drugs and a revolution leading to not just divided land but a divided society resulting in lowering of moral values for the people of Serbia.
Therefore the point of the movie is to cause the distress highlight the issues of morality, and that it does well in order to exemplify the problems and how serious they are which is why the movie should be seen as an outcry for help by the director on behalf of the Serbian people, that is why it is so.
.. it's like poetry, if it was all on the surface the story would have no depth. "A poem records emotions and moods that lie beyond normal language, that can only be patched together and hinted at metaphorically.
" Diane Ackerman.
