Review of A Separation (2011) by Peer H — 30 Mar 2012
A remarkable movie, one of the best I've ever seen. The acting is incredible and the issues that it raises are multitudinal: the stubborn pride that keeps people from making decisions in their own best interest, mostly among the males; the sexism in countries like those in the middle-east; the negative effects of fundamentalist religion.
The two men in conflict with each other were very human but also insufferable because their pride prevented them from considering the effects on the people they love of their rigid pride, the two main women characters came off as much more willing to forgive.
Even during the credits at the end, the wife who was leaving looked occasionally at her husband while he kept looking down and away from her.
