Review of A Separation (2011) by Sumit S — 09 Nov 2012
Simplest in its approach, minimalist in its presentation, economic in its creation and artistically subtle... A Separation is one of the finest movies to have come out in a long time. Asghar Farhadi has done a tremendous job in both directing & writing this film.
The movie is very simple in its narration but morally & socially, it is quite complex. It started with a bang, kept raising its tension, got more n more confusing with its sudden twists n turns, became morally challenging as much to the viewer as to the characters in the film and finally finishes off with an ambiguous ending thus coming full circle.
Its highly gripping, tough to let go, emotionally draining but its worth it. One of the best films of world cinema, A Separation is the powerhouse of Iranian Cinema.
