Review of A Room with a View (1986) by Sancar S — 20 Jan 2013
This is the one that launched Merchant and Ivory into the mainstream, and it goes down like a fine vintage. Yes, it's a little padded, but little touches like performances from Maggie Smith (one of my favorite actresses) and Denholm Elliott are a real delight.
It's the only time, screwball comedies aside, that a five-minute scene with male frontal nudity ends with a witty punch line.
