Review of A River Runs Through It (1992) by Jonathan W — 30 Mar 2008
7.5/10.
This is a movie that I nearly misunderstood. But during the very end I was reminded that every river must run its course. And in that course there may be rapids, average spots, and spots where the only way you know it's going forward is if you see an insect or a bubble moving on top of the water. All of this is on the way to its end. And there the big picture comes into focus.
This is a film you have to take as a whole and it may require patience. It's poetic, funny at times, and introspective. It also has one of the most perfectly-done endings I have ever seen. The final ten minutes will leave you deeply moved, and challenged to cultivate better communication in your relationships while you still can.
Seasons in your life come and go, but unlike the natural seasons you may not know how long you have in the one you're in right now. So make the most of it!
