Review of A River Runs Through It (1992) by Carolyn G — 05 Feb 2011
Quiet, reserved, nothing flashy, serene. Some words to describe Redford's take on Montana life in the early 20th century. Strong performances from Sheffer and Pitt, though the movie was slow at points and I didn't really know where they were going with it, I still smiled throughout and worried something was going to happen to these honest people.
Nothing really does happen, it feels, for much of the film, but like I said, there is poise and purpose in the narrated journey of two brothers and the river that defined them since their dad instructed them in the ways of fly fishing.
If you have an afternoon, I feel like it's cinematic enough to relax you and maybe strong enough to keep you refreshed and wanting more.
