Review of A Quiet Place (2018) by Dj I — 05 May 2018
Waaaaay overrated. The group think of the critics continues to be a stain on journalism as the majority seem incapable of separating substance from message. Emasculate the males. Check. Get rid of Dad. Check. Make the females the heroines. Check. Ignore everything else of substance. Check. Not only is their judgment disappointing its also, sadly, predictable.
That is not to say that the film doesnt have symptoms of merit. It does. The silent first 15 minutes is engaging. The family "Us vs Them" works too. It is the incredulous, non stop manufacturing of drama/tension though that is just overkill. Stacking one crisis on top of another to the point where its almost slapstick. The film makers obviously have never learned that sometimes, less is more. And, of course, its totally believable that a 4th grader could solve the alien invasion when the technology of 21st century mankind could not. This film had good concepts but they were wasted on a shallow script that was reminiscent of someone trying to hard to act.... instead of just acting. Should be renamed A Could've Would've Should've Place.
