Review of A Quiet Place (2018) by Thejaywhip — 07 Apr 2018
Well directed and intense if you can buy into the rules of the movie. However, it unravels much in the way Signs did, which is a very similar movie, at the end regarding the creatures weakness. As a viewer we are expected to suspend disbelief that the whole world (and the world's militaries) are so stupid that they got overrun by aliens who can simply be destroyed by amplified higher frequency sound? Really? Realistically if this happened, the solution would have been found within 24 hours after observing the creatures are highly sensitive to sound and the military would have been able to target and destroy this foreign enemy with ease.
Just saying it really drove down the score. It's hard to ignore and definitely takes me out of the world building realism the film tried to establish. Very high marks for most everything else though. Great acting, technical film aspects, pacing, tension, direction etc.
