Review of A Quiet Place (2018) by Frozen82 — 03 Jan 2019
Its kind of a mixed bag. Idea, atmosphere, some visuals, acting and overall feel are great and refreshing going back to "old school" horrors but it has many problems in its story. First thing "the rules" are not clear- what level of sound triggers monsters.
Then there are monsters themselves that to me are really not that scary and with so overdone design, your typical Carpenter the Thing from almost 40y ago. Problem with monsters is also that they kind of "just appear" out of nowhere that again goes back to rules and not fleshing them out to be more something authentic (maybe materializing instead of just rushing in) First 30 min.
of a movie are really slow and boring, I know it wants to establish family ties but it could do it more effective and do more with that time. It picks up when action starts but then again its too disjointed and wastes time on nothing, scenes that make no sense, bending the whole dynamic action part of the movie in stupid direction for pointless "self sacrifice" cringe moment.
There are lots of other things to nitpick that are illogical but wouldn't bothered me if the basic premise was done right. But even with all its flaws I liked it for its ambition even if it fails to deliver.
