There are so many oversights in this movie, in terms of basic logic... I'm willing to suspend disbelief and tolerate apocalyptic zombie films to a certain extent, since that scenario revolves around a highly contagious virus.

How did these things take over? They're among the most disabled "scary" monsters I've ever seen.

Apparently they can't see or smell. Their only sense is sound and they're supposed to have amazing hearing... But, they're stupid so it doesn't matter how good their hearing is.

I assume they're aliens and they travelled to Earth somehow. Yet, they're as intelligent as a very stupid animal. They can't tell the difference between a decoy sound and a person.

When they hear a noise, and there is a group of people, they just take the one that makes the noise. They don't check if there are other people... Literally anything man-made can distract them. The buzzing of an electronic timer. Fireworks. Something falling off a shelf and landing on the floor...

So: how difficult would it be to rig some decoy sounds?

Why rig up hundreds of red light bulbs but set up exactly zero sound based diversions? And why not sound proof the entire house?

I really don't understand how these things beat the human race... More importantly: how did this family with their stupid children and absolute lack of sensible strategy manage to survive?

If the creatures can't hear them near running water, why not live near running water?

Krasinski isn't a great actor. He's not terrible and he's doing as best as he can. But, I can't help compare some of his anguished expressions to Jim's looks off camera and those failed cringe-worth attempts at drama in The Office.

The film is too sincere, considering how ridiculous and ill-conceived it is... I stopped paying attention about three-quarters of the way through.

It's not a terrible film.

By this point, I think a lot of people are so used to "crap" that they've lowered their standard for "good". If you want to suspend disbelief and turn your brain off, this might be a riot. I don't know. I don't want to do that. I'd rather watch a film that makes sense.
