Review of A Quiet Place (2016) by Connor H — 27 Dec 2018
A Quiet Place is a film that is very mixed. On the one hand, it has some brilliant visual storytelling and tension during a decent portion of its scenes. On the other, it has an overbearing score that ruins certain otherwise scary scenes and moments of cheap jumpscares and overexplanation (see: waterfall scene). For each scene that immerses the viewer in this bizarre and terrifying dystopia there's another that pokes holes in the overarching plot and breaks the viewer's suspension of disbelief. A very uneven film that isn't even saved by fantastic performances from Emily Blunt and.
Millicent Simmonds.
