Review of A Quiet Place (2016) by Bill D — 21 May 2018
Talk about disappointing. Spoiler alert: if you are going to see it don't read further. The movie's premise is that some creatures started wiping out the population and the family we follow we see first at about 3 months after the start and then later about 1 1/2 years after the start.
The creatures hunt by sound so there is little dialog and the family goes to great lengths to not make noise. The family always has electricity, yet there is no explanation of how that could be if most of the population is dead.
They also have beautifully planted corn fields, but no explanation of how they were planted without attracting the creatures. Finally, near the end one of the creatures is blown away with a shotgun. If they can be killed that easily, how did they overcome the population and, especially, the military? I know horror movies don't have to make perfect sense, that's the point of a horror movie, but they can't ignore huge logical disconnects.
