Review of A Prairie Home Companion (2006) by Jenn M — 25 Oct 2007
Yuck. Keillor and Altman sucked out everything that makes the radio version of Prairie Home Companion tolerable, even occasionally worth listening to, and replaced it with everything that makes it cloying and grating (at the same time, which is a trick).
The film is self-satisfied, precious, and coated with a thick veneer of ultra-fake "Aw shucks" humility that bores into your skull like a ball-peen hammer. Also, Garrison Keillor sings. A lot.
Run far, far from this movie, and pretend that Altman stopped making films with the incredible Gosford Park.
