Review of A Prairie Home Companion (2006) by Sheridan P — 28 Oct 2013
Based on a true story, this film follows the final episode of a popular country music radio show, hosted by Keillor who plays a fictionalised version of himself, which is cancelled after corporate bigwigs buy the Fitzgerald theatre in which the show was hosted.
The final film of the legendary auteur Robert Altman. It certainly has all the theatrica spontaneousness that is easily associated with its filmmaker, and quite a charming timeless atmosphere. Nevertheless, it's not the most compelling of dramas and its emotional and psychological complexity is not at all as deep as it should probably have been.
