Review of A Prairie Home Companion (2006) by Elyse B — 14 Feb 2008
What this film truly succeeds in is creating an authentic setting: the worn, beloved and slightly seedy old backstage. Dripping with nostalgia and regret, it feels more like a glimpse backstage at the real radio show than a scripted film.
Though the casting was great, in some moments I loved details of the atmosphere more than the characters themselves--Altman's ineffective desktop fan, Streep's unravelling braid, Keillor's uproariously hairy legs.
..these all lend themselves to creating a genuine atmosphere...err, "home.".
