Review of A Prairie Home Companion (2006) by Katie B — 22 Apr 2012
Growing up in the Midwest, listening to A Prairie Home Companion on the radio is a heartfelt tradition, and this is an interesting little homage/tribute/fictional account of the show. It's odd, it's quirky, and specially made for the Americans in that special part of the country who "get" it. It's a strange little movie, very soft-spoken and pleasant, it does manage to get into the heart of Minnesota. Still, like the show that inspired it, there are some segments I really liked, and some segments that just didn't do anything for me.
It's a slow moving film where nothing really happens, and it's more about light chuckles than huge guffaws, but if you're one of those people who "gets" it, I'm sure you'll find it charming.
