Review of A Place in the Sun (1951) by Ashley T — 20 May 2009
For someone as cynical as myself, it's often hard to like old Hollywood pictures. The plots are often contrived or overly simplified, and almost always over-the-top. A Place in the Sun is especially guilty of all of this, yet for some reason, I bought into the movie completely.
I can't exactly figure out why though. Perhaps because it was filmed in black and white? The actors were pretty? The story was ridiculously romantic and I'm a complete softy deep inside? Who knows, but I'm glad that I wasn't completely disappointed by this one.
