Review of A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies (1995) by Kelly B — 06 Dec 2007
Even with the 224m running time, this documentary doesn't cover enough ground. Although this is more a problem with looking at the history of film than this film itself. But I did find myself not being drawn into this as I hoped.
Martin Scorsese is an extremely articulate man but his direct to camera, script read address began to annoy me a bit, and the film would have been so much better with a more interview based structure, something along the lines of Stan Lee's Mutants, Marvels and Mayhems.
Nonetheless some brilliant points are raised and wonderful directors and eras explored, if a little too condesending to the more experianced film historian.
